A Beginner’s Guide to Metal Roof Replacement: Part 1 – Is it the right time to get new roofing?

Replacing your roof is never a simple task. An average roof replacement can easily cost thousands of dollars, especially if you’re replacing an aging roof with a high-end material. More budget-savvy homeowners, however, will almost always go for a metal roof, which is known for its durability.

While having your old roof torn down and replaced as soon as any serious issues begin to crop up, it’s much better to have your roof replaced at just the right time, and not before. After all, if you still have a properly functioning roof, what’s the point of having it torn down right away? But when, exactly, is the right time to get a new roof installed?

When it’s suffered severe damage

Most roof problems can easily be repaired by a trained professional. However, there are cases where the damage to the roof is so severe that there’s no other option but to completely replace it. So yes, if your roof’s been hit bad by a storm or has otherwise been irreparably damaged, get yourself a new metal roof for your home now, by all means.

When the old roof is past its lifespan

Some roofs are only designed to last for a couple of decades; beyond that point, your existing roof becomes more vulnerable to all kinds of roof problems. When the cost of constant roof repairs appears to be getting a bit out of control, then you might be better off spending that money on a new roof.

When it’s no longer energy efficient

The roof plays a big role in your home’s energy efficiency. If an old roof does a poor job of insulating your home due to its deteriorated state, your heater or air conditioning system will have work double-time just to keep indoor temperatures at comfortable levels. Aside from boosting your monthly electric bill, this’ll also put an unnecessary strain on your appliances, possibly shortening their lifespan.

There are plenty of other reasons why you should switch to a metal roof, but these three should be the most important factors. When you notice any of these signs, you need to get in touch with a roof expert and have your roof replaced as soon as possible.

Knowing when to replace your roof is essential, but why choose a metal roof to replace it with in the first place? Find out in the second part of this series.
